Heard about you last night

splendid_season(This is late, but I hadn't really written about it before)
On the night of February 13, 2014, I was front row and center at Mogwai's gig in a medium-sized venue with just a handful of people in the audience. It was the first (and last, so far) time that I cried during a concert. Even seeing my favorite band Sigur Ros live for the first time in Singapore (2013) did not move me as much as Mogwai's performance did. It just killed me.
It was so LOUD, and so perfect, even when the string of Dom's bass guitar broke mid-way through a song and even if there were so few of us in the crowd. The rest of Manila missed out that night. Everyone who hasn't seen them live is missing out. They are THAT AMAZING.
So, what song made me break down? It was New Paths to Helicon, Pt. 1. I remember being stunned out of my effing mind. I was getting all weepy but didn't want to just start CRYING right in front of the stage, so I turned around to look at my twin brother and friend and managed to get out one word: "grabe" (no exact english translation, but something like "extreme").
I wasn't the only one who was moved. My twin brother has described that concert as "life-changing" and has said that he saw "visions of our ancestors" during the show. His ears were also ringing for a week after. Luckily, I did not experience any ringing; only impaired hearing for a few days afterwards. But the after-effects were severe in that it took MONTHS before I could listen to anything else. And of course, I went on a total vinyl-buying spree. <3
At the end of the concert, Martin tossed his drumsticks out at the crowd. I got one of them. :)
I cannot wait until they make new music and come tour in Asia again. Or, I could watch them elsewhere, like when I take my PhD in the UK. Haha :)) Wherever, whenever, I will see them live again. <3
